About EGHC

East Grand Health Center was founded in 1965 and was the first rural health center in the state of Maine. Currently, it is the local health center for 15 Maine towns and townships as well as the summer residents of East Grand Lake.

The original East Grand Health Center was located in one room of the Danforth Town Hall. It was open one day a week with one medical provider and one public health nurse, serving as a nonprofit ambulatory health care center. In 1981, the current health center at the 201 Houlton Road location was built after local citizens saw the need for a more permanent facility.

We are fortunate to have an extremely dedicated Board of Directors, several of whom have remained on the Board since the health center's inception. They all reside in the community; many are health center patients. Their insight and judgment has ensured that the health center continues to grow to meet the needs of the local community.
